Taking regular time off to recharge is of utmost importance. Even our electronics devices need to recharged or switched off so that they can continue to function. However, we often forget about that in our life. We keep pushing ourselves, hustling ourselves and neglecting the urge of our body and our mind to rest. This is how we move towards a burndown.
How we loose balance when there is no time off
This hustle, daily pushing yourself to your hundred and twenty percent is even more evident when you are working full time and balancing childcare. I don’t think I took a proper break since 2020, specially since the last two and half years. It was a non stop juggling of home, office, child and our small business. It became even harder in the first two quarter of this year when Christian had back to back business trips, often for days. It is not easy to support your spouse while holding the fort and doing everything else. Any experienced parent knows, when it is the most inconvenient for them, is when the children fall sick suddenly. This added to my workload even more. I couldn’t take even a minute off to rest and recharge. It reflected in my health and added a lot of mental stress. My anxiety increased, productivity decreased and overall I was not content.
So I decided to take a day off completely ( See the Youtube Video below if you want). Not just from work, but from my business, my home, my husband and my lovely baby. I went to a wellness resort where I would not have to cook or think of food and can sleep as long as I want.
My Life Balance on my Time Off
I ended up choreographing and shooting a beautiful dance, doing a lot of journaling, writing, painting. I pampered myself with food and massage. Most importantly I switched everything off and enjoyed the beautiful moments.
Those two days of being solo helped recharged my battery. I was holding off to a trip with some office colleagues which I decided to go to. my toddler had absolutely no problem being without me for a night. So I have started to go out late nights with my girlfriends. I also synchronised my calendar with my husband and now schedule late evening swimming sessions for myself.
Benefits of Time Off
The much needed break from everything and everything helped me prioritize myself, reschedule my time and my physical and mental capacity and improved my overall work-life balance. Now, I am more mindful about my boundaries and listen to my body when it signals the need for rest. I’ve learned that taking time off isn’t a luxury but a necessity for my well-being and efficiency. In the long run, this intentional self-care has made me better equipped to handle the responsibilities that come with my various roles.
These changes have not only benefitted me but have also positively impacted my family. I am more present and engaged with my child, more supportive of my spouse, and more productive in my professional life. I’ve realized that when I take care of myself, I am better able to take care of those around me.
Advice on Better Life Balance
If there’s one piece of advice I can offer to anyone feeling overwhelmed, it’s to carve out time for yourself regularly. Whether it’s a short walk, a hobby you love, or just a few minutes of quiet, these moments of self-care can make a world of difference. Remember, recharging is not a sign of weakness but a step towards a healthier, happier you.
So, if you find yourself feeling stretched too thin, take it as a signal to pause and recharge. Your body and mind will thank you for it. Embrace the notion that taking time for yourself is an essential part of maintaining your overall well-being and not just an indulgence. Remember, you are the most important asset in your life, and taking care of yourself enables you to be the best version of yourself for everyone else.
As I continue to integrate these practices into my life, I’ve noticed a profound shift in my overall outlook. Challenges that once seemed insurmountable now appear manageable. I approach each day with renewed energy and a clearer mind, ready to tackle whatever comes my way.
In essence, giving yourself permission to rest and recharge is a powerful act of self-love. It’s about acknowledging your own needs and prioritizing them amidst the demands of daily life. So, take that break, book that retreat, or simply sit in silence for a moment. Your future self will be grateful for the investment you make in your well-being today.
